Awning windows are hinged at the top of the frame, and open by pushing out the window. They offer a very secure option, as well a very airtight seal to decrease air penetration. Awning windows decrease the possibility of finger clamp accidents, and allow you to control the maximum opening radius, making them a popular choice for families with children.
Casement windows are similar to awning windows, except they are hinged on either the left or right side of the frame. They are opened by a push out or crank operation, making them highly secure. Casement windows are typically slender, making them an excellent choice for smaller rooms with limited wall space.
