Various Types of Vinyl Windows to Consider
We have a number of different types of vinyl windows in our brochure. It’s important to look beyond their appearance, and understand their opening and closing mechanisms. We consider awning, slider, casement, double-hung and fixed windows in this post. SilverLine Exteriors can make up special window frames to suit your needs.
The Most Popular Types of Vinyl Windows
Awning / Push-Out Windows
Awning windows have hinges at their top edges controlled by cranking systems. It’s therefore possible to fix them in any position without having to worry about the wind. This is a handy security feature although many customers choose them because they can leave them open in steady rain when they act as awnings.
Slider Windows
Slider windows move horizontally on tracks and are mechanically simple, trouble-free devices. They scoop breezes on warm days and this can be tuned by the extent that they are open. Our customers have a choice of one-opening and one fixed pane, or dual opening ones. This option is also available for our casement windows.
Casement Windows
Casement windows have hinges on one side that crank open. They provide a modern alternative to plain and mullioned double-hung windows, especially when twinned in opposite pairs. These types of vinyl windows scoop the summer breezes from either end. The cranking system is an advantage for young families with kids.
Double-Hung Windows
Double-hung windows have upper and lower halves that slide past each other vertically in classic style. However, nowadays they don’t have sash cords to break, because springs counterbalance them in side tracks. They are less fashionable nowadays, because a child on the windowsill can tumble through when the lower sash is open.
Fixed Windows
Fixed windows can be a good solution when you want to admit light, but don’t want them open. These classic picture windows feature in high rise, fully air-conditioned apartments. They are less expensive than opening windows. However, they can trap heat unless they have superior thermal insulation,
